Q: Do I need a credit card or bank account to join?

You do not need a credit card or bank account to become a registered user. All that is required is a valid e-mail and mailing address. You must be 18 years of age or older and accept our website Terms and Conditions. If you would like to become a Preferred Member Seller or a Business Seller then you do need a credit card account to join.

Q: How do I know if your sellers are reliable?

We work hard to make sure that all sellers on WiseAuctions.com are valid and reliable. Although WiseAuctions.com is not responsible for transactions between buyers and sellers, we do offer some tips for buying from our site:

  • Always check feedback and reputation rankings for sellers; if there is a negative feedback or have a poor reputation please be cautious before sending any money.
  • Never send money through Western Union, this is a classic way for fake sellers to try to get your money.
  • Always use payment options that allow you to dispute the transaction, for example www.paypal.com.
  • For large transactions ask that you use an escrow service, for example www.escrow.com.

Q: How do I pay my fees?

All fees incurred are due immediately. We only use PayPal and Google Checkout for online payments. PayPal allows you to pay us with Visa, MasterCard, AMEX, Discover and bank draft.

Q: How do I get paid for a sold item?

There are various payment methods available to get paid from your buyers.
When you list an item for sale you will select which payment methods you will accept. At auction end, you would then contact the winning Buyer requesting payment. You would inform the winning Buyer of the total due and determine how they are going to pay. The Buyer should then in turn make a timely payment. If you select any of the 'direct' online payment methods we have listed in our Payments Policy, you will need to ensure that you first create an account with that payment merchant before listing.

Q: What if I made a payment and the seller will not respond or send my purchase?

Although we do our best to keep fraudulent Sellers off our website, this problem does arise occasionally. We recommend that you send details of the transaction to support@WiseAuctions.com. Be sure to include auction number(s), Sellers username, date and method of payment, and any other information that would assist us in our investigation.

We will do our best to mediate a resolution for you, but there is no way for us to recoup your funds or guarantee you any specific results. We ask that you use "safe" payment methods when making purchases from Buyers you are not familiar with. When we say "safe", we are referring to payments through PayPal or Google, as they have a charge back process available for such issues. We also strongly recommend that you don't use cash, money orders, checks, or wire transfers to pay Sellers you are not familiar with, or Sellers that have limited feedback ratings. These payment methods leave little or no recourse for the Buyer, in regards to recouping funds paid to the Seller.

WiseAuctions.com will thoroughly investigate all such claims, and then take appropriate action against the Seller that is not in compliance. We will also take steps to hinder these persons from signing up to sell on this website again.

Q: We suggest filing complaints with the appropriate agencies below, should WiseAuctions.com not be able to resolve your issues:

File a complaint with the shipper USPS
https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/forms/MailFraudComplaint.aspx

File a complaint with the Internet Fraud Complaint Center
http://www1.ifccfbi.gov

File a complaint with the National Fraud Information Center
http://www.fraud.org/info/contactnfic.htm

National Consumer League's Fraud Center
https://secure.nclforms.org/nficweb/nfic.htm

Q: Can I retract or cancel my bid?

You can retract a bid (not Buy Out) if the auction has more than 12 hours left before the listing ends. When you do this, all your previous other bids for this auction will also be eliminated. So be sure to bid again if you are correcting a bidding error that you made. To retract your bid, click the bidding tab in the Members area. Find the auction you wish to remove the bid on and click the remove bid option.

Note: There is no equivalent for bid retraction in Buy Out listings or for listings where the bidding has ended. Once you've confirmed your purchase you are obligated to pay the Seller.

Q: I made payment for an item, but it is marked as unpaid. What should I do?

If you make payment for an auction outside of the WiseAuctions.com website, our system will not know this and will reflect "unpaid" as the status. The Buyer will have to manually update the status of this iem in the Members area. If your Seller accepts one of our direct pay methods, you will be able to pay directly from your items won page. Once payment is completed, this page would be updated automatically (within approximately fifteen minutes), showing a status of "paid". If you pay outside the website, many Sellers just ship items without updating the paid status. Please contact them directly to adjust.

Q: I won an auction but now I don't want to purchase it. What are my options?

A bid or Buy Out purchase is considered a contract and you are obligated to purchase the item. However, mistakes sometimes happen, and many Sellers are willing to work with you if you communicate with them openly and honestly. If you have not done so already, you may want to give the Seller a call, or send them an e-mail. Let the seller know your situation, and see if you can work things out to everyone's satisfaction.

If the Seller does not respond in the way you hope, keep in mind that failing to purchase an item you have won may result in negative feedback, as well as a non paying bidder strike against your User account. Too many unpaid item strikes may result in permanent suspension of your User account.

Q: Can I use HTML when listing an item?

You can use HTML codes in your listing however, we recommend you use basic tags as complex HTML codes may cause your listing to display improperly.

Q: What items am I not permitted to sell?

The following items are not permitted to be sold on our website:

  • Hacking/cracking content
  • Illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia
  • Pornography, adult, or mature content
  • Gambling or casino-related content
  • Any other content that promotes illegal activity or infringes on the legal rights of others
  • Sales or promotion of certain weapons, such as firearms, ammunition, balisongs, butterfly knives, and brass knuckles
  • Sales or promotion of beer or hard alcohol
  • Sales or promotion of tobacco or tobacco-related products
  • Sales or promotion of prescription drugs

Q: Why is my account suspended?

Accounts are suspended for various reasons. If your account is suspended, you should have received an e-mail detailing the reason(s).

Some of the main reasons for account suspensions are listed below:

  • Contact information is not valid
  • Buyer complaint that Seller has neglected to respond to our administrative e-mail. We usually give the Seller 2-5 days to reply to our requests for information.
  • Bidding on items without paying. We usually do not suspend for only one of these types of infractions, but we reserve the right to take action if we deem necessary after conducting our investigations.
  • Repeated violations of our Terms and Conditions.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Users who are suspended are prohibited from registering for new User accounts, bidding or selling on WiseAuctions.com using any other existing User accounts. WiseAuctions.com reserves the right to suspend all existing User accounts as well as new accounts opened by anyone in the same household of a suspended User or by any other associates of a suspended User.

Q: How do I close my account?

To close your account you would just need to turn off all your e-mail preferences and end any active auctions you may have running. You would then not receive any correspondence from our website in the future, unless you turn any of your e-mail preferences back on. If you have been the Buyer or Seller in any recent transactions, you may receive correspondence from the other user involved. We do not purge User accounts from our database, for internal security reasons. Requests for such a purge will not be completed, unless a court order is issued.

Q: What if I commit fraud?

At WiseAuctions.com, we work hard to provide a safe and secure online auction environment. WiseAuctions.com reports all cases of criminal fraud and co-operates fully with law enforcement agencies in their investigation and prosecution. All IP addresses are recorded on our servers for every transaction.

The smartest thing to do is to conduct your buying and selling in a legal and ethical manner.
