- Personal Info Online
Whether you are a buyer or seller, keeping
your personal information private is always a good idea. Placing an item online
with your real name as a account user name is a bad
idea.
Making your personal information available on
the auction is also a bad idea.
Hundreds of thousands of people view this
website and your personal safety and security is important. Do not communicate
with buyer or sellers outside of the "Ask seller a question" feedback
areas on the site or your account mailing area.
**WiseAuctions can not track or
safeguard off-line communications or activity**
- Account Protection
Never share your account login information.
Never check "remember password" on a shared computer. Change your
account password as often as you can. Use a secure password (alpha numeric's -
ex: 9xy2mn9) Do not access your account from a public computer you do not
trust.
Do not use your personal information (ex:
John Smith) as your account name. Prevention is always better than the cure. Play
it safe rather than being sorry.

manufacturers recommended settings.
Make sure when you make an auction payment
(buyers or sellers) you pay on a secure site!
A secure site has a website address or URL
consisting of for example https instead of http
A secure website has NO security warnings
before you access it. A secure website has a security lock image at the bottom

- E-mail
Protection
It is much safer to use the "ask the
seller a question" feature on the auction.
If you are e-mailing the seller or buyer
directly, your personal information including your computers IP address is known.
**WiseAuctions
recommends to use our contact boxes or your account mailing features - NOT
personal e-mailing**
- Item/Auction Details
Make sure you read the entire auction through
and pay special attention to the text and images to make sure it is what you are
looking for and what you want to bid on. Use the "ask seller a
question" to further ensure what is posted is what you will receive if you
are the highest bidder. If something looks off, it usually is. Be diligent and
report any fraud to WiseAuctions via the contact us page or your account area.
- Ask
Seller a Question
Your communication with the seller is very
important. WiseAuctions has initiated a direct method for you to contact any
seller on their auction for any questions you may have relating to the auction.
Use it. It is secure and your privacy stays intact by using this "ask a
seller a question" feature.
- Sellers/Auction Location
First, make sure the seller is in the United
States of America. The US laws does not work very well on someone outside the
USA. Second, make sure that the seller’s location is not on the other side of
the country if you are bidding on for example a car and the auction
specifications are that you must come and get it. Know your sellers location
and just how you are going to get what you have paid for.
- Payment Methods Warning
Try to refrain from using cash, money orders
or wire transfers. Use financial instruments that you can show you have paid
the seller. Be diligent and be smart about paying for something that is being
shipped or send to you and keep track of and records of everything. Remember
that cards such as Visa or MasterCard allows for transactions to be disputed if
you did not receive what you paid for!
- Knowing
your Seller
Getting to know someone you are buying
something from is always a good idea. Use the "ask seller a question"
feedback below the auction and start to know who you are dealing with. Be safe
and do not share too much personal information. Never send the buyer any kind
of money for shipping or scams such as "they need you to break their
payment of too much money". If it sounds too good to be true, it usually
is a scam. Be alert, ask us at WiseAuctions or ask the authorities. It is your
items you are selling and it is your money that you wish to get in return for
your items. Be very wary and diligent. Your online safety and security is
important to us, so talk to us if it does not sound right.
- Second
Chance Offers
Some non-winning bidders have received fake
second chance offers from sellers via personal e-mail etc. If the auction did
not have a multiple item (proxy bid) auction style, then this is usually a
scam. Be careful and report this immediately to WiseAuctions to investigate.
- Shipping + Insurance
When anything is shipped to you when you
bought it, it usually is a good idea to make sure you get what you paid for.
Most shipping companies have low priced insurance and it is always a good idea
to receive something that was sold to you un-broken. Ask the seller to insure
the items or request to pay for shipping and insurance yourself to ensure the
safe arrival of what you paid for. If you suspect any fraud etc., report this
to WiseAuctions immediately to investigate.
- Payment
Security Measures
Ensure the buyer/bidder can pay. Collect
their information and bill them for your product(s) Make
sure the transaction clears and get a confirmation number. Ship your product(s)
via a well know and auction approved shipping company. It is a good idea for
you or the buyer to add insurance for the shipping. If it gets there and it is
broken, the first thing that will happen is that the buyer will cancel the
financial part of the transaction and then you are back to square one.
Secure the payment. Secure the shipment. Keep
records.
- Foreign Money or Checks
Be diligent. WiseAuctions has a currency
conversion link on all auctions. Use it or use http://www.xe.com/ to
get more accurate daily exchange rates.
Most high priced auctions can and will receive
offers from foreign countries to pay via that countries foreign money orders or
checks etc. Most of the time it is derived from Africa.
Be very careful. There is no way for you to go and get your items back from
those countries once it's there and you realize the money order or check is
fake.
- Know your Buyer
We suggest to buyers/bidders to get to know
you. Same applies to you as seller. Get to know your buyer to ensure not only a
smooth transaction, but possible repeat sales. Know your buyers.
